The Best Louis Vuitton Perfumes for Summer

Louis Vuitton has a strong line-up of perfumes for warmer weather. Here are some of the best options for summer.

1. Afternoon Swim

If I had to choose the most obvious Louis Vuitton summer fragrance, it would probably be Afternoon Swim.

Originally introduced in 2019 as part of Louis Vuitton’s Cologne Perfumes collection, Afternoon Swim is essentially summer distilled into a bottle. The main notes are orange, bergamot and ginger, and the fragrance is built around an extremely bright, juicy citrus opening. Louis Vuitton itself describes the inspiration as the feeling of waves washing over your skin on a hot summer day.

It is easy to understand why this one comes up so often when people discuss Louis Vuitton fragrances for summer. The orange is the star: fresh, slightly sweet and almost like peeling a ripe orange rather than smelling a conventional perfume.

The biggest criticism is longevity. Fragrance communities are fairly divided on how long Afternoon Swim actually lasts. Some users report only a few hours, while others say they can still detect it much later; the disagreement appears frequently on both Reddit and Fragrantica.

That probably makes this one worth testing on your own skin before buying, particularly given the price. A 100 ml bottle currently costs $360 in the US, although Louis Vuitton bottles are refillable at stores equipped with a perfume fountain.

2. Pacific Chill

Where Afternoon Swim is almost entirely about citrus, Pacific Chill feels greener and fruitier.

Louis Vuitton combines blackcurrant, cédrat and lemon with basil, peppermint, coriander, ambrette and orange. The result is still fresh enough for high summer, but it has considerably more going on than a straightforward citrus fragrance.

The inspiration is again very Californian. Pacific Chill is intended to evoke the feeling of the ocean and the restorative quality of spending time outdoors on the West Coast.

It is also one of the fragrances that repeatedly appears alongside Afternoon Swim and Imagination when fragrance enthusiasts discuss the best Louis Vuitton scents for warm weather.

If Afternoon Swim makes me think of jumping into the sea on a scorching afternoon, Pacific Chill is more like sitting somewhere on the coast afterwards with a cold fruit drink.

3. Imagination

Imagination is not technically part of Louis Vuitton’s Cologne Perfumes collection, but it might be the most versatile summer option of the lot.

Its key ingredients include amber and black tea, lifted by citrus and spices. Louis Vuitton describes the composition as combining smoky black tea with bright citrus, giving it more depth than something like Afternoon Swim while still retaining plenty of freshness.

That difference matters if you are looking for one bottle that you can wear beyond the hottest part of the year.

Among fragrance fans, Imagination is frequently recommended as an alternative to Afternoon Swim precisely because it tends to be regarded as more versatile. In one Reddit discussion about Louis Vuitton summer fragrances, several users chose Imagination outright or placed it alongside Pacific Chill and Afternoon Swim among their favourites.

It is a little less obviously “summer holiday” than Afternoon Swim, but possibly more useful as an everyday fragrance.

4. City of Stars

For something slightly softer and more floral, there is City of Stars.

Inspired by Los Angeles after dark, it combines blood orange and lemon with tiare flower, before moving into sandalwood and powdery musk.

The citrus keeps it appropriate for warm weather, but the floral and musky elements give it a completely different character from Afternoon Swim. It feels less like a hot afternoon and more like going out after the temperature has dropped in the evening.

It is also deliberately presented as part of Louis Vuitton’s Californian fragrance universe, alongside fragrances such as Afternoon Swim, Pacific Chill and On the Beach.

5. On the Beach

The name makes this one fairly self-explanatory.

On the Beach was created around yuzu, neroli and cypress, with Louis Vuitton describing it as an interpretation of the sun, sea and warm sand of a day spent at the beach.

The yuzu gives it a sharp citrus freshness, while neroli softens the fragrance and cypress adds a slightly woody quality. Compared with the juicy orange of Afternoon Swim, this feels drier and somewhat more aromatic.

It is probably one of the most literal summer fragrances in the Louis Vuitton collection, and a good option if you like citrus but do not necessarily want to smell strongly of orange.
