Louis Vuitton has unveiled its latest Artycapucines collection, featuring 13 limited-edition handbags inspired by American artist Keith Haring (1958-1990). Developed in collaboration with the Keith Haring Foundation, the collection brings the artist’s distinctive figures, bold outlines and colourful imagery to the Capucines bag.
The collection marks the eighth edition of Artycapucines, an ongoing project that invites artists to reinterpret one of Louis Vuitton’s signature handbags. All 13 designs are scheduled for release on January 1, 2027, at Louis Vuitton stores worldwide.
Keith Haring’s Artwork Reimagined on the Capucines
The collection incorporates some of Haring’s most recognisable motifs, including Running Heart, Radiant Baby, dancing figures and animals.
Louis Vuitton has used a variety of techniques to recreate these artworks, ranging from leather marquetry and embroidery to laser printing and hand-applied embellishments.
The collection includes the following designs::
- Capucines Nano Running Heart: A silver-tone minaudière decorated with more than 12,000 individually set rhinestones, recreating Haring’s Running Heart motif.
- Capucines East-West Mini Maze: Features an intricate embroidered composition created with thousands of beads and traditional needlework.
- Capucines BB Holiday: Recreates a colourful seaside scene through leather marquetry, combining calfskin with ostrich and karung leathers.
- Capucines BB Figures: Features Haring’s colourful dancing figures against white Taurillon leather, framed by the artist’s distinctive black outlines.
- Capucines Mini Symbols: A black leather handbag decorated with colourful three-dimensional charms representing Haring’s signature characters.
- Capucines MM Genesis: Draws inspiration from a vintage Louis Vuitton suitcase that Haring personally customised in 1984.
Together, the designs demonstrate how the same Capucines silhouette can be transformed through different artistic techniques and materials.
The Story Behind Keith Haring’s Louis Vuitton Suitcase
One of the collection’s most interesting references dates back to 1984, when Keith Haring decorated a Louis Vuitton suitcase originally produced in the 1930s.
The artist covered the vintage piece with his signature imagery, including Radiant Baby figures and energetic lines. The customised suitcase has since become a connection between Haring’s artistic legacy and Louis Vuitton’s history of travel goods.
For the new collection, this piece inspired the Capucines MM Genesis, which incorporates elements of the original artwork into the handbag’s design.
Artycapucines and Louis Vuitton’s Artist Collaborations
Launched in 2019, Artycapucines has featured interpretations of the Capucines bag by more than 35 contemporary artists.
Previous participants include Takashi Murakami, Urs Fischer, Beatriz Milhazes, Alex Israel and Tschabalala Self.
The Keith Haring edition also follows Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2027 womenswear collection, presented at New York’s Frick Collection in May 2026. Designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, the collection incorporated Haring’s artwork across selected clothing and accessories.
Louis Vuitton also presented an Artycapucines retrospective at the Grand Palais during Art Basel Paris, from October 23 to 25, 2026, showcasing designs from the project’s history alongside works by participating artists.
When Will the Louis Vuitton x Keith Haring Bags Be Available?
The Louis Vuitton x Keith Haring Artycapucines collection will launch on January 1, 2027, as a series of limited-edition designs available through Louis Vuitton stores worldwide.
Official retail prices have not yet been confirmed.
The collection continues Louis Vuitton’s longstanding relationship with contemporary art, translating Haring’s distinctive visual language into a series of highly crafted handbags.
