Gonzague de Pirey and LVMH

He joined LVMH in 2020, initially as General Manager of Sephora Germany. Sephora is a French retailer of body and beauty products, ranging from fragrance to makeup, haircare, skincare, and beyond. It includes brands such as Dyson and Bobbi Brown and has been part of LVMH since 1997. This experience gave him a firm understanding of the luxury retail industry. De Pirey quickly stepped into an international role as SVP of New Ventures at the French-based brand, leading Sephora’s new projects. In this role, he was involved in several innovative initiatives, such as partnerships with tech companies and the brand’s entry into the Metaverse. Amidst a challenging time for the retail industry, he launched the unlimited loyalty program and MySephoraStore, an innovative app that allows social media influencers to monetize by promoting Sephora products.

In March 2023, he was appointed Chief Omnichannel and Data Officer for the group, reporting to the group’s deputy CEO at the time, Toni Belloni. Regarding his role, the company stated, “Gonzague will manage the global integration of data and artificial intelligence into the value chain of our brands. His teams will work with visionary companies in terms of innovation, as well as with our houses, to provide an optimal and more integrated customer experience across all touch points, and to improve the efficiency and responsiveness of our supply chains.” This is a crucial role within the business, as the need for an innovative omnichannel and e-commerce strategy continues to grow more advanced and complex. Customer behavior is rapidly evolving, and customer touchpoints are constantly changing. De Pirey is believed to be involved in all aspects of business innovation. Clearly, digital acceleration is one of the group’s key priorities, and he has taken on this important role under the direction of Bernard Arnault.

Upon his appointment, Toni Belloni commented, “With his extensive experience in omnichannel businesses, in various sectors and countries, and as leader of Sephora New Ventures, he has demonstrated his ability to drive innovative initiatives for the benefit of our customers and our business. His strengths will be instrumental in accelerating the progress of our companies and regions in the exploitation of technology and data.”

Before LVMH

He graduated from the École Polytechnique. He began his career as a civil servant in the Prime Minister’s Cabinet, serving as a social affairs advisor under Jean-Pierre Raffarin and later Dominique de Villepin. He then moved to Saint-Gobain, initially as VP of Corporate Planning. Originally a mirror manufacturer, Saint-Gobain now produces a wide range of materials for industries such as construction, infrastructure, automotive, and buildings. Although he has an engineering background, his experience at Saint-Gobain was diverse, spanning corporate strategy to country leadership roles in the APAC, Russia, and CIS regions. In 2016, he took on the role of CEO of Lapeyre Group, a company specializing in home furnishing products, which was part of Saint-Gobain until 2021. He is also a Non-Executive Board Member and President of two other businesses alongside his role at LVMH.
